Lives for Literacy is a volunteer youth-led international not-for-profit organization on a mission to provide youth with literacy skills that help them reach their full potential academically and economically.
Lives For Literacy (L4L) was launched in 2020 by Yasmin Farah Peer, a World Literacy Foundation Ambassador from Quebec, Canada. After noticing the lack of literacy skills and resources for marginalized communities during the pandemic, she connected with fellow Ambassadors across the country and started a movement of students, youth and young professionals.
L4L's mission is to ensure that youth everywhere have the opportunity to acquire literacy skills that help them reach their full potential academically and economically. They seek a world where youth have access to an education that is affordable, accessible, and continuously available and that they are empowered to contribute to their own development, their communities, and their countries as tomorrow's leaders.
A student-led initiative of L4L, the Journal of Multidisciplinary Research and Literacy is an internationally-renowned journal for academic research led by youth. It also facilitates opportunities for youth to get involved in the publication process and enables them to play a part in changing the climate for youth research. L4L also has a number of resources that help facilitate dialogue and discussion around what education means for youth and students.
