GCE-US Statement on Closure of USAID

July 1, 2025 | GCE-US

As of today, July 1, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) has officially concluded its implementation of foreign assistance programs. Remaining programs will now be administered by the U.S. Department of State.

The Global Campaign for Education-US (GCE-US) extends its deepest gratitude to USAID staff for their decades of dedicated service to both our country and communities around the world. Since its founding in 1961, USAID has played a vital role in improving the lives of vulnerable populations, saving lives, and creating opportunities for individuals, families, and communities to thrive.

In fiscal year 2023 alone, the U.S. Government supported 44 million learners through pre-primary, primary, secondary, workforce development, and vocational training programs—most of which were made possible by USAID’s Education Office and its exceptional staff.

As these programs transition to the State Department, GCE-US calls on Congress and the Trump Administration to preserve the invaluable technical expertise, institutional knowledge, and grant management capacity cultivated within USAID. The legacy of USAID's work has made America safer, stronger, and more prosperous—and we are all the better for it.
