GCE-US 2024 AMP Global Scholars Seminar
July 16, 2024
Washington, D.C. - This month, the Global Campaign for Education-US (GCE-US) team in Washington, D.C. had the pleasure of meeting with the AMP Global Scholars, a group of global students whose mission is to make the world a better place as the next generation of global citizens. Thanks to our partners at Jesuit Refugee Services USA (JRS USA), Natalie Snelson and Genevieve Manise hosted two in-person sessions on July 2nd and July 9th.
The AMP Global Scholars program provides high school students with exposure to advocacy work and opportunities to be change-makers in their communities. Students in the program participate in seminars, interactive workshops, and small-group activities to build collaboration skills and apply their knowledge to be future leaders.
Students from the AMP Global Scholars cohort met with Natalie Snelson, Genevieve Manise, and Divine Irakoze, three of GCE-US's summer interns, to learn about GCE-US's mission and advocacy work to promote basic education as a human right domestically and internationally. Divine shared personal experiences receiving education through JRS's programming abroad. Natalie and Genevieve followed by discussing the importance of inclusive, accessible education for all, and urged students to advocate for the READ act by contacting their local congressman. GCE-US was kindly hosted by Clara Sayans at JRS USA, a GCE-US coalition member, who also shared JRS USA’s honorable work with the group.
Students discussed how education has impacted them through personal stories and experiences with peers. Many students expressed interest in getting involved in education advocacy in their own communities.
GCE-US is grateful for the chance to interact with the AMP Global Scholars and is encouraged by their incredible passion for creating change and making a global impact.
