The Global Campaign for Education-US is pleased to support the updated draft of the political declaration of the High Level Political Forum (HLPF) for its mention of access to inclusive and quality education. The changes made address our initial concern that the goal of education for all was left behind—despite Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG4) being under review at the HLPF this year.

We applaud the addition of point 7, which states:

We resolve to realize our vision of a world with access to inclusive and quality education, healthcare, food security and improved nutrition, safe drinking water and sanitation, reliable and sustainable energy and quality and resilient infrastructure for all.”

Furthermore, we support the following inclusion in point h:

“Harnessing science, technology and innovation with a greater focus on digital transformation for sustainable development…We will promote and support education to ensure that all children, youth and adults are empowered with the relevant knowledge and skills to shape more resilient, inclusive and sustainable societies.

These changes are essential to harness the support and energy of the HLPF community towards the push for global access to inclusive and quality education. At GCE-US, we believe that without achieving SDG4, the rest of the Sustainable Development Goals will be unattainable. Education provides a key foundation that make goals like economic growth and reduced inequalities possible. Above all else, education is every child’s fundamental right.

We urge all policymakers involved to commit to the inclusion of this language in the final document.

At the Global Campaign for Education - US, we advocate to ensure that all achieve the right to quality, inclusive education. You can take action and join in by:
