GCE-US Champions Global Education at UNGA 80

September 26, 2025

GCE-US and our members made a powerful impact during the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 80), amplifying the call for inclusive, quality education worldwide. Here are a few highlights from this year’s gathering:

Roundtable on Education in Emergencies
The Inter-agency Network for Education in Emergencies (INEE), Street Child and GCE co-hosted an insightful panel discussion entitled “Locally Led, Globally Backed: A Common Agenda for Education in Emergencies.” Amid growing needs amid deepening aid cuts, speakers discussed how we can advocate for sustained prioritization and financing for education in emergency settings and also fundamentally rethink how the sector can structure itself, to better deliver for children and learners in crisis settings.

Spotlight on Foundational Learning
GCE-US member Building Tomorrow brought together education leaders to explore how grassroots initiatives and government systems can collaborate to improve learning outcomes in a side event entitled Co-Creating Capacity: Aligning Community and Government for Scalable Foundational Learning. The session emphasized scalable solutions rooted in community engagement and policy alignment.

GCE-US Member Meet-Up
GCE-US hosted a vibrant member meet-up, fostering collaboration and shared vision among organizations including Building Tomorrow, iAct, United World Schools USA, Rukmini Foundation, and Global Education Community. The gathering provided a space to reflect on UNGA engagements and strategize for collective action in the year ahead.

GCE-US will continue to support member engagement in high-level global forums such as UNGA and related convenings to ensure that education remains at the heart of global development conversations.
